Tuesday Tipplers

Resurrected Minutes for 11 February, 2003 by Tod, Tom and Flan

It was a cold and blustery evening on that fateful evening of Flan’s poor record-keeping.  Some records exist – those of Environment Canada, for example.  So….the outside temperature was -7 to -8C and, by the end of the evening, the visibility outside (weather) and inside (Tipplers) similarly drastically reduced.  Much like the hot air that was blowing around the table, much colder outside air was blowing from the west at 28 kph when the opening liquid was consumed. And, although Tipplers hot air continued unabated for more than 3 hours, outside the wind speed dropped to 19 kph.  The wind, snow, cold and Flan’s cleaning lady (the redoubtable Hetty) combined to ensure that the bottles were buried and therefore a clear recollection of what was consumed was hard to find.  But Flan’s intention was very clear:

“Pick a Party Wine - imagine that you had to buy a red wine for a party of 50 people - say a case of 12 bottles.  You are looking for an overall quality / value combination. For the tasting, there are five possible wines with a price range of $10.30 to $15.95 - all currently available.  To confuse members, three other wines are included - wines not currently available and which also might not fit the description of 'party wine'. A previous Tippler might have called them interesting wines!”

When all was revealed through the amazing tasting notes of Tom and Tod, it was apparent that the favourite wine was a 2000 Masi Shiraz (below)!!  But Masi make no Shiraz??  The “shit” Cab / Merlot had to be a French Bordeaux and the 1999 Cab must have been Bulgarian.  No other possibilities exist!!
